One dozen French Black Copper Maran hatching eggs ready for hatching.$36.00Developed in France in early 20th century, but a Marans-type bird is said to have begun as early as the 13th century. Imported to North America from both France, England, and elsewhere, post-WWII. Believed by many to be the best tasting chicken meat in the world! Their eggs are yummie tooo - plus they lay dark brown eggs, so dark that they can often look like chocolate easter eggs! Many people love them for the eggs as much as the meat! These are a lovely bird, also gentle and docile, easy to handle. We don't raise any breed that has any tendancy to attack or act in a mean fashion. They'll make wonderful pets in the back yard, while providing the dark brown eggs most of the year - they can sometimes lay year round, but it's up to the individual chicken. They're just a bit larger than the Silkies and Polish - more like the Delawares (6.5-7lbs), and will make lots of noise if they're roosters.
