Description:

All valves are fast an free, and there are dents and scratches throughout. It is a very soft brass without any signs of red rot. It plays well open and with valves 1 and 3. 2nd valve has a missing pipe though. Interesting that the first valve seems to be the half step valve (normally the second valve is the half step) - rather unusual that way. This is quite a show piece, conversation piece, and an amazing piece of German engineering from the late 'Gilded Age'. Very unusual to have an instrument like this working so well (see the video of the valve motion) and so well preserved, save the missing 2nd valve piping, which could likely be custom fitted to bring the instrument back to full playing condition. Sorry that there is no case for this, but I will pack it well and insure it.The bell is 5-1/2". Length is 17-1/4" from mouthpiece to bell with ledpipe all the way in. This can be adjusted for tuning. The mark is Vogtlandiscme Musik-Instrumenten-Fabrik Hermann Dolling Jr Markneukirchen. There is a longitudinal crack at the end of the lead pipe of at lease 5/8", perhaps to help taper and make for easier leadpipe insertion, or it is just a crack, but this is unknown. Returns are only accepted if it is determined that the item is significantly different from what was described in the listing. As this is vintage, it is really impossible to describe every flaw and imperfection, but I will try to give the most accurate description I can and still be practical.
