New guitar built by Darren Hippner. I've bought and sold around 50 of Darren's guitars, and his Bernabe model has been one of my favorites. This one is no exception. It is very loud and bright, easy and satisfying to play. Slightly on the metallic end of the spectrum, but with lots of tonal nuance and great balance. Darren's guitars are some of the best ever in the price range which I specialize in---$1500-$3000, and this one is even less expensive due to 3 crack repairs in the side (see next-to-last photo). Apparently this Mexican Kingwood is rather brittle (similar to Cocobolo I think) and these cracks occurred and were repaired during construction. They don't effect the quality of the sound or playability in any way of course, but do effect the price. I am always happy to find guitars whose quality far surpasses their price because of crack repairs (which rarely seem to diminish the quality for the player). These may not be for the collector, but they are great values for the performer. The setup on this one is also great--3.0mm on the bass, and 2.75 on the treble, with plenty of saddle to lower more if preferred. The scale is 650mm and the nut is 52mm, very comfortable to play. I think this unusual combination of wood--Red cedar and Mexican Kingwood has provided a pretty amazing result. Very few brand new guitars can match the qualities of tone, power, and playability that this guitar has. Comes with a new hardshell case. I intend to post a video soon.
