18K Gold 1865 Tremont Civil War Historical Pocket Watch Gov of KS Inscribed Very Rare and Unique Pocket Watch Watch was made by the Tremont Watch Co. 1865 . The case is a solid gold Hunter made in England (please see hallmarks) This is a key wind full Hunter Case Repeater weighing 129.6 grams Watch is fully functional and comes with key - there is a small hairline crack on the porcelain face Watch is inscribed on the back "Colonel John A Martin with the friendly regards of W F Downs April 1869"A little research shows that Colonel John Martin was at one point the Governor of Kansas, served in the Civil War with General Sherman , Held many other political offices.Major William F Downs was responsible for the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad - Also served in the Civil War and was the 1st chief clerk of the Bureau of Revenue and was a special agent for Treasury Department.
