marquetry rendering of Painter Oscar Howes iconic piece 'Sioux Mourner'
I am pleased to be able to offer for sale a couple of signifigant marquetry pieces. This offering represents the last remaining pieces on which I collaborated with my late mentor, Gene Zanni. The one pictured here is 'Sioux Mourner', originally a painting by Oscar Howe. Gene received permission from Howe's estate and from the curator of the collection at University of South Dakota to render the piece in wood, and their approval was courted throughout the process. Luckily, circumstance makes it possible to charge an accessible price well short of the amount of our sweat that went into this collage of wooden gemstones. Finished in CAB Acrylic lacquer and hand polished, It is 48"x38'', and an awe inspiring sight in ideal light. Marquetry has its greatest effect through the chattoyence, the reflective quality of the woodgrain, making this even more stunning in person. Here is a chance to own a beautiful legacy piece at a price that's as rare as the work of this now lost craftsman. Will ship. Reasonable cash offers considered. Ask about other work for sale...-Timothy
