Signed, limited edition bronze bust by contemporary American sculptor, George M. Kelly. Mounted on verdi gris marble base. Variously called "Bust of Waiter" and "Bust of Rob" circa 1980. Purchased in 1985 directly from the artist and offered now by private seller (not a dealer), with certificate of authenticity. Open to discuss payment options (Paypal or bank check, etc.) No personal checks. Buyer can collect or we will hand-deliver free of charge within 100 miles on NYC 10075. If crating/shipping is required, we will provide an estimate and split cost 50/50. Beautiful piece and, we believe, the finest example of Kelly's exceptional work. Bust measures 13-3/4" high x 8" at deepest point. Base is 5-3/4" square by 3-1/4" tall. Overall height (base and sculpture) is 17-0/0".George Kelly was born in Philadelphia in 1952. He began formal training in 1970 at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, after which, he traveled through Europe to deepen his study of fine arts. He returned to America in 1975 and apprenticed in Philadelphia to sculptor Paul Anthony Greenwood for several years. In 1978 Kelly received the Greenshileds Foundation of Montreal grant and moved to New York. There he began additional sculpture study at the New York Studio School where he received the George Spaventa Memorial Scholarship in 1979. In the years following and since, Kelly has been recognized with many prestigous awards including: The Chaim Gross Foundation Award from the Audubon Artists Society, The Arthur Ross Award from the Classical America Society, The Wyatt Prize from the Hudson Valley Art Association, The Alex J. Ettle Grant from The National Sculpture Society for "notable achievement in American Sculpture through a distinguished body of work." His bronze, stone and terracotta works are in numerous private and public collections including: Monument to Harold Alfond, University of Maine at Orono; Bust of Philip Johnson The National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC; Bust of Christ in Carrara marble, Newington-Corpse Foundation; Monument to John Ford, Portland, Maine.International buyers, please note: Import duties, taxes, and international shipping charges are not included in the item price.
