Pen and ink drawing of a monarch butterfly
1 / 2
Unique gift for the butterfly lover!
This very detailed monarch butterfly art is created entirely out of the stippling method which is the use of small dots to draw, shade and compose the image. There are no lines or fill-in shading used. All of my pieces are original and one of a kind. I have used black, yellow, orange and red inks on this piece and it is drawn on reclaimed yellow pine wood left behind from construction. It is approximately 9.25" x 10.75" x .75". This piece is wired to hang but can also fit on an easel. It has a smooth surface and has a backing of cloth and furniture nails. The frame is handmade and of natural wood. All of the elements used to create this artwork were either upcycled, recycled or reclaimed. Their larvae require milkweed to live but these plants are being cut down for industry and thus the Monarch population is decreasing. Monarchs are actually poisonous but they won’t harm humans: the chemicals from the milkweed eaten in the larvae stage gives them a defense against predators like frogs and birds.
