Description:

This detailed stag beetle artwork is created entirely out of the stippling method which is the use of small dots to draw, shade and compose the image. There are no lines or fill-in shading used. All of my pieces are original and one of a kind. I have used black, yellow, orange and lavendar inks on this piece and it is drawn on reclaimed yellow pine. It is approximately 9.25" x 7.5" x 1.75". This piece is wired to hang but can also fit on an easel.It has a smooth surface and has a backing of cloth and furniture nails. The frame is handmade from natural wood and is painted chocolate brown.All of the elements used to create this artwork were either upcycled, recycled or reclaimed.The stag beetles' name is derived from the large, distinctive mandibles found on the males, which resemble the antlers of stags. Male stag beetles use their jaws to wrestle each other for mating sites similar to the way stags fight over females.
