Description:

21 Nottingham DRYes, we have someone local who modifies guitar effects pedals! Drop off or mail in service available.*UPDATE: Quite some time ago, Griff Hamlin bought 1 of my modded "Phat Rats." Later I found out he had a demo on you tube where he shows off my pedal as well as other distortion overdrives. This is what Griff had to say when I contacted him: "I love the Rat... seriously it's the best sounding 1 I've played and I still use it a lot. You're welcome to use the video to promote it or demo it. And if you need a quote for your web siteor something I'll be happy to provide it. Thanks, Griff"Give a listen to the video, tell me what you think. This listing is for mod service, and we also have Rat pedals that have already been modded. But let's take a look at the mod 1st!THAT SOUND! I thought I had it...so close! The stock Pro Co Rat sounded like the distortion/overdrive pedal I had been looking for. It''s hard to believe such a big sound can come from a small pedal!Did you ever hear Pat Benetar sing? She is such a little girl with such a huge voice! But she is much prettier than a Rat, and she has wonderful control over her vocals. Too bad we can't say the same about the Rat! This pedal seems to have so much potential,. . . only it is out of control. It is too harsh, and lot of its range is simply unusable in my book.By the way, Pat and her husband Neil Giraldo (excellent guitarist and recording engineer) are on tour right now with Journey (you gotta hear Neil Schon play live!) and Loverboy. After intense study of mods from the AMZ Ebook ( http://www.muzique.com/ ) and more study of the original Ruetz Rat mod, I decided to take 1 apart. That's right, I dissected a Rat! I wanted to smooth out that harshness, so I changed out capacitors, resistors, and the opamp. I added a germanium diode in series with the other diodes. What a difference! This mod takes the edge off of the harshness, and this pedal now sounds more like an overdrive/distortion . . .instead of distortion gone wild. This overdrive sound was exactly what I was looking for. You can crank this baby way up now, and the sound does not get mushy. Our modded Rats get a full bodied sound, warm in the middle, and the sound remains transparent when you push it. Your guitar will cut right through the mix, and will be heard nice and clear above any band.I have a 100watt B52 tube amp, and this Rat sounds better on the clean channel than my tube amp sounds on its best adjustment on the dirty channels. This pedal now has the best tube amp sound I have ever heard from a pedal!Jack Orman of AMZ (nice fella, knows his stuff!) calls 1 of his mods the "Fat Rat." This may not be too original, but I am calling this 1 the "Phat Rat" because of that full bodied sound. My mod is pretty much 90% Fat Rat, and 10% Modest Mike. It also has my DNA, and there is a little magic in there you just have to hear to believe!Did you know?In the early 90's the Pro Co Rat folks were inovative in the design of true bypass. You will have to look hard for a stock pedal out there with true bypass. Most companies don't even bother, or thay may install some type of buffer system that is not true bypass...don't be fooled! When you switch off the Rat, your tone stays clean. There's no tone sucking here!*It seems strange to me that the folks at Pro Co went to all that trouble, but then left the external power jack as 1 of those obsolete jacks that no 1 uses any more. When I take this pedal apart, I drill out the hole to be bigger and replace that baby with an up to date DC power supply jack. Now, you can use a Daisy or most any nine volt external power adapters, just like on your other pedals!THAT SOUND! I got it! You want it?$42 gets your Rat- Modest Mike Phat Modded! We will also remove the old power supply jack, drill out the hole, and replace it with a standard DC jack (see picture 3). And, we will replace the old red LED with a nice bright clear/blue LED.We will perform the mod, run a twelve hour burn test, and have your pedal ready to rock in three business days. . ....beat that! You can mail your Rat to me for the mod, just include an extra $8 for the ride back home. Your pedal is carefully wrapped and sent by way of USPS Priority mail anywhere inside the continental United States. These mods work on all versions, including the Big Box Rats.We also have the Rat two pedals already modded for sale! Come by and pick 1 up for $129, or get 1 shipped anywhere in the continental U.S. for $139.Thanks for looking, and keep rockin!Mike(click to respond)You can see most of our mods athttp://www.wix.com/modestmikesmods/welcomeListing originally posted at http://arkansas.instrumentshopper.com/instruments/pro-co-rat-mod-service-and-pedals.html
