Southern Yellow Pine is not the same species as the sort of pine that you normally encounter as a building material (2x4s) or as Ikea furniture. Southern Yellow Pine was traditionally used as a factory floor material because of its hardness and wear resistance. While not as hard as oak or walnut, Southern Yellow Pine is much harder than woods typically classified as "softwoods" and the longleaf variety has a Janka hardness rating (a scale used to rate the hardness of wood) of 870, higher than mahogany or chestnut.Base is a reconditioned Eames Segmented (Universal) table base manufactured by Herman Miller, the cast aluminum components hand polished to a satin finish, and waxed. Steel parts have been repainted black.Pick up from our Humboldt Park workshop (freight elevator and loading dock available), or arrange for delivery at additional charge. SHIPPING NOT INCLUDED.
