Antique 1935 SUPERTONE Gene Autry Vintage GUITAR -
Ormond Beach, FL
This is the genuine deal ... an antique cowboy guitar! It's an extremely RARE 1935 Supertone Gene Autry Round-Up design guitar. Later (1940's & post war) versions of this design are much easier to discover but this is the 1st year that this design was made with the "modern-day" long neck ... fourteen frets to body. The Supertone label is still totally intact and noticeable inside the body. The guitar is in incredibly attractive condition thinking about that it is 80yrs of ages and a rather cheaply made guitar, probably by Regal for Sears? However it's not perfect ... there are some old hairline cracks right here & there, light surface scratches and some glue residue around the bridge. It is likewise missing out on tuning pegs (a simple repair) but I do not think that people actually buy these antique cowboy guitars to string them up and play them? Maybe some do! These wonderful looking guitars are truly remarkable historical pieces and the cool cowboy photos & graphics that appear on the spruce top are the genuine value of owning a guitar like this. I expect that you could string it up and play it but exactly what's the point ... it's a piece of art & history! When these 1930's period pre-WW2 Supertone Gene Autry models do stand for sale on the Bay, they normally offer for around $350-$450 (and they aren't perfect either!). Not a lot of cash rather frankly for a near 100yr old American made all wood guitar. Nevertheless, I'm eager to let this 1 go to the 1st taker for only $275.
