For sale is a secondhand but well-cared for Hamer Special. 230 *** identification number, suggesting it was built in 92 at the Chicago factory. Beautiful one piece Honduran mahogany body with a thin D profile, 3 piece neck for added strength. Hamer-branded Schaller hardware. I sold the uninspired stock SD ceramic pick-ups and replaced them with a matched set of underwound Fralins that were produced Grosh guitars. Exceptional quality, extremely smooth breakup. Frets are in good shape, with a lot of life for crownings. A few years ago there was a partial headstock break that didn't go all the means through, which has actually been expertly repaired including a lacquer retouch. Totally strong and still keeps tune well. There are a couple of small dings and scratches, though only one little blemish that shows with the surface on the bottom bout of the guitar, near the input jack. One chip on the back edge of the headstock, as well as some light wear on the upper bout where the lower arm sits. Simply cleaned and oiled the fretboard, polished the frets, and installed a brand-new set of EB Slinkies. Has the OHSC which is likewise in good shape, however missing one latch closure. Im going to check for a replacement. A superb-playing, resonant, American-made guitar which I expected to keep for life were it not for student debt. Asking $700, Im open to trades for a nice amp (Swart, Reeves, Savage, Morgan, etc) a pretty great amp (Sunn Beta Lead, Traynor YBA/YSR/YGA, Music Man hd130 or 65) or a Hamer Newport.
