946 w/Rayed DamaskeenHamilton Watch Co. 18 size 23 jewel open face lever-set Grade 946 pocket watch with extremely rare damaskeen pattern. An exceptional piece for the Hamilton collector, this movement features an eye-catching rayed pattern nickel damaskeen that is exceedingly rare among Grade 946 production. This pattern was a special finish made for Burr W. Freer of San Francisco and I believe that only 10 examples of the Grade 946 were made for with this pattern, these being the 10 consecutive numbers from 550761 to 550770 which are listed in the Hamilton ledger as having been sold to Freer with dates between August and December of 1910. Watch is fronted by a double-sunk enamel dial with Montgomery minute numerals, and watch is housed in a nickel display case with Hamilton marked bezels. Movement serial number is 550765 which is listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been sold to Burr W. Freer on August 29th, 1910.Running and lost about a minute over 24 hours. Very nice looking movement overall cosmetically with excellent color and luster and some typical scattered mild surface marks. Dial is superb. Case is excellent with a good in-hand look and feel. Glass crystals are in good condition but have some bits of glue excess around their seats.Please check out my other items this week for more great watches and watch related items for sale.
