Kachina Style Design Pendant by Zuni Artists Augustine & Rosalie Pinto. Pendant Features a raised, mosaic design, made from various gemstones set on a foundation of tortoise shell. Measures 11/4" x 1", marked ARP ZUNI NM. an old and finest example of the work of Augustine and Rosalie Pinto, who are well-known for this Type of work They inlaid into shell using a raised three dimensional inlay method for which they were credited as having innovated. Both Augustine and Rosalie are deceased so their work is unusual to discover beyond private collections and museums. It is extremely yearned for by well-informed collectors of Southwest Indian Jewelry. I'm offering it from my private collection.This pendant is 11/4" x 1", marked ARP ZUNI NM It is sterling silver however it's not marked which is common of those times. This piece seems to be a very early example, most likely dating to the 1950s. It's in outstanding vintage, wearable and collectible condition with typical expectable age related wear. The silver work is intricate and stunning, detailed and very fine, as is the inlay work. The couple cut and buffered their own stones and inlaid them by hand. The stones are natural, including coral, turquoise, mom of pearl and jet, inlaid into brown shell. They likewise did their own great silver work. Their work appears in numerous galleries and the very best galleries. This is a gallery quality piece and suitable for the best collections.
