I have for sale an extremely, older violin. It has no label or maker's mark anywhere on it that I can discover, however this is an incredible instrument. I was offered this violin by a good pal who is in the estate sale company. He said: "Here is a wall hanger for you" and he chuckled. Well, I like the old violins, there is just something really special about them. the color, the wood ... This one has chips and nicks around the flanges. It has what resembles an extremely unrefined repair near the tailpiece peg on the back (look hard and you'll see the head of an ever-so-small fracture and a small brad). There is also a non-structural crack (I do not believe it goes through) also in the back adjacent to the heel. There is a non-structural crack emanating from the bass F-hole. You can plainly see all these "problems" in the pictures. OK, so we've gotten all the bad stuff out of the way, now let me go on to the unbelievable things! This instrument has one-piece front and back! I have no idea what wood it is, however is is lovely. The ebony fingerboard is also beautiful, jet silky-shiny and black with just a tiny scratch on it, and it is nice and straight. You 'd also discover that it is thin, like numerous very costly violins. The peg head is perfectly undamaged, no breaks of any kind - holds its ebony pegs perfectly. When I got it, I offered it a French polish ... and lo and see it is shining like a brand-new penny, however with lots of patina. If you really wanted to, you might go additionally. At this point I'm thinking I'm going to dress up this interesting instrument and see exactly what it can do. I got a Teller bridge and it fit the violin well with just a little bit of modification to the feet. This stock bridge offers ideal height off the fingerboard - fantastic. Then I decorated it with a brand-new, conventional, real ebony chin rest. I also had an old ebony German tailpiece from another task. Included an e-string tuner and a set of Pro Arte strings. This was all a gamble, however what I got actually takes my breath away. A lush-sounding, resonant, easy-to-play "ancient" violin. This is really a treasure ... reanimated! I actually have too lots of instruments and am certainly not an expert violinist. This violin is going to make one of you really pleased. It is a lost brilliant youngster in a sea of mediocrity. If need be, I did my finest bringing it back to life ... you can improve the task further. Sorry, there is no bow, although I have a lovely circa 1940s German pernambuco bow for sale right here on CraigsList in another listing if you want something really special. Coolest wall-hanger ever!:-) I believe I have priced this violin extremely fairly, but I 'd be pleased to entertain a reasonable offer. I might also consider some kind of trade as I am searching for a cool parlor guitar or a Taylor GS Mini-e. I will offer a safety case. Kindly ask me any questions you have.
