Subway Guitars is pleased to offer a rare instrument from the very innovative pioneers of electric violin and upright bases. Zeta instruments were built just a few miles from our store, and this Crossover Bass is a wonderful example in excellent condition. The Crossover was designed for electric bass players who want the upright bass feel and tone, without readjusting to the long scale of a traditional upright.The Crossover has the standard electric bass scale length of 34 in. It can be played upright on a stand with or without a bow, or it can be played horizontally with a strap like a standard electric bass. The electronics are quite innovative: unlike most pickup designs of the time, the Zeta pickup has the ability to output the signal from each string to a separate audio channel. Using a multi-pin cable to their pitch-to-MIDI converter, this allows for polyphonic MIDI control, and each string may be set to an independent MIDI channel.Of course, it has a standard quarter inch output for the non-MIDI crowd. This bass is in excellent condition with a couple of very tiny dings, none of which break the finish. The electronics work and the action is set nice and low with flat wounds. It works great with a bow and also works equally well fingerstyle. Comes with a featherweight hard case and a bow and the end pin stand, and the belly contour which attaches to the bass to hold it away from you if you play standing. The Bass and Case are both in excellent condition and fully work as intended. However, we did have problems with the end pin. It attached to the instrument fine, but we couldn't get it to stay in place while extended. It may not be necessary to extend it, depending on your height. I am 6 ft tall and without the stand extended the nut came to about my shoulder, which is a bit low for my taste. The pin can probably be repaired, or maybe a more skilled person can get it to extend as is. Also, it comes with the belly contour device, but we did not attach it and don't know how it works. The bottom line is we stand behind the instrument and the case, but will not accept returns because of the end pin or belly contour.
