Welcome to the Squirrel Hill Reed Shop!This is a listing for one handmade, professional-quality oboe reed. It is made with the Mack-Pfeiffer shape and Ross gouge. We guarantee a high level of consistency and quality as we carefully hand-select and process the cane, and all scraping is done by hand. Great care is taken in the making of the reed, and every reed produces a stable, balanced sound. Reeds are generally made to a medium strength--however, if you prefer a significantly softer or harder strength, please let us know.Our price may seem high compared to the cheaper, mass-produced reeds, but with the higher price comes a higher quality guarantee. At our shop, we DO NOT use profiling machines, wire, or fishskin in the creation of our reeds. Other companies use such methods to compensate for flaws in the reed-making process, such as generic, unpersonalized scraping and structural leaking. Those mass-produced reeds have short lifespans and create bad playing habits that last for years. Our 100% handmade reeds provide great reliability, longevity, and an extremely enjoyable playing experience--try one, and you will see the difference!Please see our profile for information on our musical training as well as shop policies. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!When you've eventually worn out a reed that had been purchased from us, please do not throw it out! The staple (cork & metal part on which the cane is tied) can be used for a new reed. For each old reed that you return to us (packaged safely in its case), and the staple is still in good condition, we will reuse the staple and give you a $2 credit per reed on your next order!
