The battery compartment closes nicely without batteries in it but lags open a bit when batteries are installed. I am not sure why this happens but know the camera still works as I have taken photos myself. I did place a piece of scotch tape over the compartment door when I was using it. I also used it without the tape and it worked fine. I just felt better with the tape in place. There are closeup photos of the door lag so please see all photos for condition of the camera.
