Item is brand new in box, never used. Rate sticker is $49.99 from Orchard Supply Hardware where I bought it about 12 years back. It was for when I stayed in a multi-story building, in case there was ever a fire, then this was an emergency fire escape ladder that would quickly attach to the window sill in the occasion of the ladder and an emergency situation rungs, on chains, might be tossed out the window and hang down to the ground, so one might safely climb up down the ladder to the ground below. Maker is American La France, whom I believe also make fire extinguishers and other fire and safety equipment for around home and company. Intense shiny steel inside the initial box with directions on ways to use in case of emergency. The side of box states portable, shops under dresser, bed or window, no bolts or screws, hangs instantaneously over many window sills, hangs away from wall for foot space, strong all-steel construction. It does not state how long it is and I've never removed it from the box to determine, however the image on the box and instructions shows somebody climbing up down from a 2nd story window and the escape ladder appears to be reaching at least one floor or additionally below the window they are crawling out of to escape. If you have a 2 story home and are worried about having an emergency situation escape ladder somewhere up on the 2nd floor, in order to get out quickly or as an eleventh hour resort, then this could be a great product to keep where everyone in the family knows the best ways to find it, in case the unimaginable were ever to happen. I am in a one tale building now and it makes no sense having this using up room when I will not need it. At $20, it is a great cost for being in never ever utilized condition in its original box.
