Circa 1940. This machine-pieced, hand quilted, double bed size quilt has actually rose colored plain cotton gating separating squares of natural muslin upon which are appliqued a cotton print flower variation of Dresden Plate. The applique is highlighted by black pearl cotton cross sewing which adds a naive quality and enhances the quilt graphically. The cotton batted quilt, with gently glazed cotton backing, a little darker rose than the gating, is magnificently hand quilted with double feathery wreaths. Measures 99" x 85". This quilt has been photographed and signed up with the Illinois Quilt Research Project and an unique tag has been sewed onto the back recognizing this fact.
