This is a very early 19th Century drop front desk sturdy and fully practical however in requirement of restoration. It is Northern European in origin and has styling details just like Biedermeier furnishings. There are 3 large drawers and one slim drawer on the front of the chest. The front drops open and rests on 2 stretchers to develop a writing area and reveal 7 little drawers, and 2 tall narrow drawers with columns and capitals either side of 1 center mirrored door. The veneer is extremely unstable in spots and some has actually broken away. The pictures give a concept of the state of the veneer in spots. This is a great restoration piece, but is also serviceable as it is - I utilize it daily. It sits in my living room and I constantly receive compliments on it from visitors. I am organizing a cross-country step and can't take it with me. There might be slight room for settlement on cost.
