November 14, 2009... From the day the 2009 Southern Illinois University Saluki Football schedule was released, this date had been circled as one that would be filled with memories. The final regular season game at McAndrew was on for all-time. What began with the recognition of former Salukis returning to say goodbye to McAndrew Stadium eneded with an impromptu post-game sining of "Go Southern Go!" by players and fans as the Saluki Nation celebrated the team's outright Missouri Valley Football Conference Championship. The 2009 Saluki Football season was on for the record books, and the memory banks. After a tough loss at Marshall to to open the season, Head Coach Dale Lennon and the Salukis won 11-straight games, including being the first team to post a perfect 8-0 record in MVFC play. The Saluki Nation was able to celeb rate the team's first win at Northern Iowa since 1983, a win at Souther Dakota State to clinch the team's seventh consecutive playoff appearance and three weeks being ranked Number 1 in the country.
