Navajo Turquoise Disk and Heishi Shell Necklace with Sterling Naja- E.S. Mitchell. Nice sandcast sterling silver pendant in the shape of a Spanish naja. Created by Navajo silversmith, Eugene S Mitchell measuring 2 5/8''L x 2.5''W. Necklace is 26''L, not including naja. Heishi shell that has been cut, drilled and ground into round pieces and strung on a necklace. A beautiful piece of jewelry! The crescent shaped naja is 1 of the most familiar forms in Navajo indian jewelry, although it comes from outside the Navajo culture. It is thought to have originated in the Old World as a Spanish horse gear - a 3rd eye placed on the animals forehead to ward off evil.
