Juan Estruch Chet Atkins 1981 Concert Classical Guitar with Signed Yellow Label

Location:
Brooklyn, NY
Description:

Juan Estruch 1981 "Chet Atkins" ConcertClassical Guitar with Signed Yellow Label, Model 1The sound of this guitar will rival many vintage guitars inthe $4,000-$7,000 price range. The late great Chet Atkins played the Estruch Yellow Label guitar, used it in many ofhis recordings, and preferred it to other brands of concert classical guitars.TheEstruch brand was founded in 1880 by Juan Estruch Rosell. His son continued theguitar making tradition. At his death in 1970, his son Juan Estruch Pipó,the last master-luthier from the Estruch dynasty, took over the firm. He personally signed the yellowlabel guitars made by him, whereasguitarsfrom that period without his signature were made byhis apprentices. JuanEstruch Pipó passed away in 1989. A well-known European classicalguitar salon shared several videos of the 1976 and 1971 Juan Estruch YellowLabel guitars on YouTube. They also have videos of other guitars, including the1966 Ramirez made by Antonio Martinez (AM), who was the favorite luthier of Segovia. These videos were made in the same room with the same guitarist playing thesame or similar compositions, which makes the comparison as objective aspossible. You caneasily search YouTube for 1971 and 1975 Juan Estruchclassical guitars and 1966 Jose Ramirez 1a classical guitar and compare Estruchand Ramirez guitars practically side by side. Give it a blindfold test anddon’t be surprised if you chose the Estruch that costs about 25% of theRamirez. Basedon its appearance, this 42-year old guitar was verylightly played over its lifetime and spent most of its life in a closet, which is evident by the absence of nail marks on the soundboard. But even lightlyplayed, the sound of this guitar has the fullness, robustness, depth andsustain that would meet the demands of many classical guitarists. It has a deep, warm, rich and powerful voicethat if desired, could also sound quite bright. You can play Villa Lobos, Bach,Jobim, Django, Legrand or The Beatles and Trini Lopez - and the guitar soundsnice in all those types of music. Fora vintage guitar it is in excellentplus condition. If guitar were 5-10 years old guitar, I would call it very good to excellentcondition. It has no cracks or structural repairs. From a 2.5-3 ft distance itlooks near mint and stunning – big, beautiful, dark and mysterious. At a closerlook you will find some minor cosmetic blemishes. The most noticeable ones are somescratches behind the bridge, a 2-mm strap pin hole at the end block that wasfilled and a couple of small imperfections. Please see the last few pictureswhere I tried to show the blemishes. The tuners work well, but the 4th and 5th pegs squeak a little when tuning. The originalstring action was too low for my taste and I replaced the saddle with one of mine. Currently, the 12th fretaction is 3.7 mm under the 6th string and 2.7 mm under the 1st string(+/- 0.1 mm). In case the new owner likes lower or higheraction, I placed the original saddle and Madagascar rosewood shim in the case compartment. The specs for this guitar are as follows: · Scale length: 650 mm.· 53.5 mmnut with 42.5 mm string spacing (+/- 0.25 mm).· 493 mmbody length, 375 mm lower bout width (+/- 1.5 mm).· Bodydepth 97 mm at the neck connection, 105 mm at the end block (+/- 1 mm).· Top: 1/4sawn dark red cedar.· Back andsides: beautiful dark Indian rosewood.· Fingerboard:ebony.· Hard case in excellent plus condition, possibly original. Ioffer free insured Ground shipping for a winning bidderanywhere in the US lower 48. Payments shall be received within 3 days afterclosing. I will try to timely answer any questions from potential buyers. Contactme if you want to check the guitar in person.
