1941 HOLTON Revelation Model 48 Bb Trumpet - Serial #149651 (no case or mouthpiece included)This is an extra nice, recently overhauled instrument. I am a retired professional trumpet player and I've owned several Holton 48's over the years. This is nicest Model 48 I've ever encountered. All three valves were beautifully overhauled and aligned by Charlie Melk and the instrument has been re-finished with brushed lacquer. A Bach Stradivarius 3rd valve travel stop was installed. This Holton 48 features a one-piece, hand hammered bell, nickel silver slide tubing and valve case balusters. Holton 48's built in the '40's after the war came with a two-piece bell and ordinary yellow brass slide tubing. All slides move smoothly. There are no dents, no dent history or red rot. It has a .459" ML bore, a 4 -13/16" bell and a reverse main tuning slide. It plays with a sound that is warm and smooth with a C cup mouthpiece but becomes brighter and more edgy with a shallow cup. Intonation is exceptional. It is a fairly heavy horn and can be played at extremely loud volumes. This model is sometimes called the "poor man's Martin Committee trumpet".
