1952 VINTAGE Gibson Les Paul Standard GoldtopMy grandfather bought this guitar in 1952 and has kept it mostly in its case the past 70+ years, except for the very rare times he played it at home for family. It is in pristine condition, with original trapeze tailpiece, two original P-90 pickups and electronics, and original tall gold barrel type knobs.This example of 1952 production is in overall excellent condition with no breaks, but expected minor wear in all the areas one would expect from 70 years of use. It plays extremely well for a 1952 model.In 1952, the Gibson Les Paul Model made its first appearance as a single cutaway, solid body guitar with the now-standard combination of a carved Maple cap on a Mahogany body, with a Mahogany neck and Rosewood fingerboard. The available finish was a metallic gold top with clear lacquer over the rest of the guitar. The earliest models had an un-bound fingerboard, but this quickly changed to a bound fingerboard. At the time, ‘Rosewood’ came from Brazil.This Gibson Les Paul Model sports the original gold top finish and dates to 1952, the first year of production. One of the nicest 1952 models we’ve seen for a while, it is in largely original condition, with no structural changes or breakage. As a 1952 model, it does not bear a standard ink-stamped, horizontal serial number; Gibson began stamping serials on these in 1953. However, it does have a vertical factory number impressed on the back of the headstock. The impressed, vertical factory number shown above probably represented an initial attempt by Gibson to come up with a numbering system for these guitars.Vintage Mid-50s Gibson brown hard shell case with pink interior is included.
