Over the years, this turntable has become a legend of sorts in audiophile circles. When first released in 1975, Sony's suggested retail price was $900, over $5000 in today's currency. In addition to being a direct drive design, Sony pulled out all the stops when refining it's technology. It features a carbon fiber tonearm, quartz lock speed control (which is defeatable), automatic tonearm return and an anti static grid built into the dust cover. It also plays 45's. Weighing in at nearly 40 lbs., this 'table was designed to last indefinitely due to the massive motor assembly it employs. It weighs as much as my 200 wpc power amp! My service tech calls it a "work of art".I don't have the original shipping carton (it wouldn't be very sturdy after nearly 50 years anyway) but will make sure it is packed professionally. You will notice that a couple of these 'tables are on eBay with asking prices of over $2000 and listed as "junk" for parts. My 'table is fully operational. You will need a new phono cartridge, however. On Dec-06-23 at 16:12:53 PST, seller added the following information:**UPDATE** After running the 'table for several hours, I discovered that the X-tal lock feature is working intermittently. I will contact my service tech to see if it can be repaired. If not, this may affect your desire as to whether or not to bid on the item. However, when the X-tal lock is off, the speed stability is fine.
