Ampico Popular Reproducing Rolls (Recuts), All Played by Frank Milne — Lot of 15 All 15 of these “popular hits of the day” rolls are recuts originally distributed by Harold L. Powell of North Hollywood, California. Seven rolls are labeled as having been recorded by Frank Milne (see photos). The other eight rolls are all labeled with one of Ampico’s pseudonyms for Frank Milne (see photos). All 15 rolls, with the exception of one selection on one roll were, in fact, recorded by Frank Milne. Roll No. 213441B—215661B shows the first selection, “The Kings Horses,” as being played by Victor Arden & Adam Carroll; these are not Milne pseudonyms. However, the second selection, “The Music Goes ‘Round and Around,” is played by the “Sherry Brothers,” one of Frank Milne’s pseudonyms (see photo).Please note that Roll No. 216533 B, which features "Over the Rainbow," needs repair of the take-up leader by supplying a metal fitting (see photos). The overall condition of the labels suggests that I purchased these rolls secondhand. Rolls purchased by me directly from a manufacturer remain in very fine condition. Those are yet to be posted. Ampico pseudonyms used for Frank Milne on these recordings: Bob Edgeworth Robert Farquhar Ralph Addison Noel Sherry Jeremy Lawrence Sherry Bothers I discovered the reproducing piano in 1971 while studying flute in London and coming across Frank Holland’s famous museum dedicated to automated musical instruments. He was quite a character! Subsequently, I owned and enjoyed three different pianos, including Duo-Art, Ampico, and Welte (Licensee). My roll purchases were mainly from the 70s into the early 90s, when I began to sell the pianos. I am just now getting around to selling my collection of reproducing piano rolls. The collection includes Duo-Art, Ampico, and Welte Licensee. Many are original, period rolls; but there are also many recuts. The selection of rolls shows my preferences as a professional orchestral flutist since 1967. The rolls have always been stored properly in closed cabinets, are in excellent condition, and are guaranteed to play well on your properly regulated reproducing piano. I will also be listing a few standard 88-note rolls that caught my fancy. Please examine all the photos, as they are part of the description of the roll. I’ve tried to show the condition of the rolls, the leaders, and the boxes. If you have any questions concerning a roll, feel free to contact me. Watch for more rolls up for auction. I will be grouping lots according to the performer. Nearly all are what I call “European art music,” featuring the great students of Liszt and Leschetitzky, among other famous pianists. I do have some “popular hits of the day” that caught my fancy. Please note that I ship only to verified eBay addresses within the United States. That means no foreign sales.
