Sony SCD-777ES SACD CD Player with working remote and Stabilizer Weight

Location:
Reading, PA
Description:

Experience high-quality sound with this Sony SCD-777ES SACD player. Complete with working remote and stabilzer weight. This player is designed for performance and is a must-have for anyone who wants top of the line sound quality. Complete with functioning remote this is ready to be added to your home stereo system. About the Sony ES SCD-777ESThey co-developed the CD, which uses 44.1k PCM (44,100 samples-per-second Pulse Code Modulation) audio encoding to store music in digital form on a disc. Now, to audiophiles' delight, Sony and Philips have co-developed the SACD format (Super Audio CD) which pushes digital audio sound quality to new heights!SACD employs Direct Stream Digitalâ„¢ audio encoding, which samples music at 2.8 million times per second for ultra-high frequency response (to faithfully reproduce high harmonics and room interactions that were present when the music was performed) and exceptional dynamic range. The result: far smoother, more "analog" sound than 44.1k PCM could ever deliver. It's the best of both worlds: Digital clarity with analog warmth!Sony's SCD-777ES plays SACDs and your existing CDs with glorious precision, thanks to cutting-edge electronics and impeccable Sony ES construction. It weighs in at over 55 pounds!Audiophiles love SACD! Check out these quotes from two different reviewers in Stereophile (November '99):"SACD is superior to CD in terms of roundness, imaging, tonality, fullness, harmonics, air, space, focus palpability, quiet between the notes, pace ... in a word, everything!""To say that I am bowled over by the sound quality offered by SACD would be an understatement."Details:stereo SACD and CD playbackdual fixed optical pickups: 1 for SACD, 1 for CDSynchronous Time Accuracy Controller (S-TACT) suppresses time-base jitterCurrent Pulse D/A converter24-bit variable-coefficient (VC) digital filter for CDbase-and-pillar constructionbrass disc stabilizeranalog outputs for SACD; optical and coaxial digital outputs for CDCD TextSACD frequency response 2-50,000 Hz0.0012% THD105+ dB dynamic range17"W x 5-13/16"H x 20"DSpecifications/CompatibilityThis unit can play the following discs:Conventional CDsSuper Audio CD (Single layer disc): These can hold up to 74 minutes of music and are playable ONLY on an SACD compatible unit such as this.Super Audio CD (dual layer disc): These discs hold dual layers of high density information for longer playing times (one side only, so the disc does not have to be turned). These discs are playable ONLY on an SACD compatible unit such as this.Super Audio CD + CD (Hybrid disc): These discs have a high density SACD layer and a CD layer, allowing them to be played either on an SACD compatible unit OR on a regular CD player which can read the CD layer.Note that this unit can not play DVDs, CDRWs, VideoCDs, or any other type of disc. The unit we tested could play an audio CDR. Also note that this unit is stereo only, and will not be able to play any potential future multi-channel SACD discs except in stereo.Playing frequency range: Super audio CD = 2 Hz to 100 kHzFrequency response: Super audio CD = 2 Hz to 50 kHz (-3dB); CD = 2 Hz to 20 kHzHarmonic Distortion: Super audio CD = 0.0012% or less, CD = 0.0017% or lessDynamic Range: More than 105 dB for Super audio CD, More than 100 dB for CD.Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding: Unlike PCM based technology (CD/Minidisc/DVD/Audio DVD, etc.), Super Audio CD is based on DSD encoding which does not require decimation and interpolation filters. DSD is much simpler and enables a 1-bit signal to be recorded directly. DSD encodes music at 2,822,400 samples per second allowing you to hear sound with incredible ease and clarity. DSD combines the advantages of digital recording with the best characteristics of analog sound. Dual Discrete optical block One laser is optimized for SACD, the other for CD so either format can be played with no compromises.Twin fixed pickup laser tracking assembly: Isolates servo voltages from the laser pickups by having fixed lenses while the disc and turntable move for tracking. S-TACT: Synchronous Time Accuracy Controller reduces clock noise and minimizes jitter for both SACD and CD playback.Current Pulse D/A Converter: For both SACD and CD provides extremely accurate conversion from 1-bit digital to analog.24-bit Variable Coefficient digital filter: For CD playback, handles 64 times as many steps as previous Sony digital filters. You can select five distinct settings to match your listening environment and music source. The five settings are Standard (Steepest possible roll off above 20k with greatest suppression of ultrasonic noise); Clear; Plain; Fine and Silky. Super-rigid Base Pillar (BP) ConstructionAnti-resonant 10mm chassis base, 4.5mm sidewalls and 5mm top plateDie-cast aluminum spindle motor with sapphire and ruby bearingsFloating suspension transport with rubber dampers and 6mm base plateMotorized slide-top loadingBrass disc weight: Note that if you attempt to play a disc without the brass disc weight the display will state "no stabilizer" and will stop. The weight must be used in order to play a disc.Aluminum front panelSACD and CD Text Compatible: This unit has a large display which will display the disc name, artist name, and current track name (15 characters will appear at once, after which the display will scroll) with compatible CDs with CD Text and SACDs (most of which will have text). If the text is available in various languages the display will show "Text-multi" and the displayed language may be changed.Index function: This function works on CD discs ONLY and allows you to access indexes which divide tracks into smaller segments. Note that only a very few (mainly classical music) CDs have index marks.A-B repeat: Allows you to select a start and end point within a track and play it repeatedly. This function works both for CDs and SACDs.Display: You can switch the display so that CD text information is not displayed, turn the display off completely, or leave it in standard mode which displays disc time and track information, text (if available) and the format being played.SACD/CD Switching: The unit automatically determines the format of an SACD or CD disc. However, an SACD/CD switch on both the remote and the unit allows you to select the format for slightly quicker loading times or, in the case of a hybrid SACD/CD disc, to select the CD layer.Digital Out button: Switches off the Toslink and Coaxial digital outputs to minimize radiation interference. Note that these are for 16bit CD disc output only. There is no digital output during SACD playback.Remote Control:RM-DS1 remote control is included. This remote has a 1mm aluminum top plate and is aluminum and gray in color: The remote duplicates all front panel controls and adds programming, shuffle, repeat, and a numeric keypad for direct track selection. The remote's codes correspond to Sony CD Player codes so many of its functions can be operated with a normal Sony receiver or preamp remote control. Note that CD1 and CD2 modes can be selected from the remote to allow for using this unit in a system which already contains a Sony CD player.Inputs and Outputs:Top panel:The motorized slide (slides to the right) is located on the left top of the unit.Rear Panel:Analog output: Left and right gold plated RCA jacks. Note that this must be connected to the receiver or other system amplification, since SACD discs are output only from the analog output.Command mode selector switch. Allows you to set this units remote codes as CD1 or CD2 so that it can be used in a system with a regular Sony CD player without causing mistaken operation.Standard/Custom switch: This switch is held in place by a plate secured by a screw and is factory preset to standard which prevents the unit from outputing high frequencies beyond the audible range (50,000 Hz) from the analog outputs. This switch should be left in the standard setting when (1) recording to a tape deck and (2) when connected to any amplifier or receiver that does not expressly state that it is capable of handling such high frequency signals in order to prevent high frequency noise from harming your loudspeakers, the amplifier or activating the amplifier's protection circuitry. Note that the only units which the manual specifically states can handle the Custom position are the Sony TA-E1 preamplifier and TA-N1 stereo power amplifier.Digital Outputs: One Toslink digital output with a plastic cover and one gold plated coaxial digital output. Only 16 bit digital signals from a CD or the CD layer of a Hybrid SACD disc are output through the digital outputs. SACD signals are only output through the analog output. This is done both for copy protection issues and the fact that SACD signals are NOT PCM, thus they could not be recorded by current consumer digital recorders.AC Input: For the supplied AC line cord.
