Caravelle Classic Deg Products Nickel Plate Double French Horn - Holton? - Vgc

Location:
Milwaukee, WI
Description:

THANKS FOR CHECKING OUT MY AUCTION. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION AND MY POLICIES BEFORE PLACING YOUR BID. Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list! This listing is for a "Caravelle Classic" French horn. It is also stamped "DEG Products Co." (Lake Geneva, WIS). I know DEG didn't actually manufacture whole instruments (I think they made some accessories and parts), so this is likely a stencil made by a different company. By guess would be that it was made by Holton due to the close proximity of Lake Geneva to Holton's plant in Elkhorn. That's just an educated guess though, so if someone knows otherwise, please let me know. I can't find the serial number on this horn...they always seem to be hidden on French horns. I do notice that it is stamped "29" in several spots, such as the undersides of the keys. This is a double horn. It comes in nickel plate finish. This instrument is being sold as is for repair/restoration. I don't believe it is currently in proper playing condition, but I also don't think it is that far off. The main issue that I'm noticing is that the key action seems a bit heavy and not clanky, but I imagine this is due to old lubricant that has gotten gummy over time. Please read on for more details on condition. I strive to be as accurate as possible, but this is an old instrument, so I might miss something. Please check the pictures carefully and if in doubt, ask questions prior to bidding. This is a former school instrument that was retired by the district that owned it. As such, it has an I.D. marking hand etched on the bell. As far as school horns go, this one seems to have fared pretty well. I'm not saying it is perfect by any means, but it isn't totally bashed up like most. It has scattered minor dings, pings, and nicks, but no significant dents. The lead pipe is in good condition; not bent or otherwise damaged. I don't see any re-soldered joints. All of the slides and valve caps are free. It seems to have good compression. All of the main slides produce a nice 'pop' when removed. As mentioned earlier, the key action seems heavy, although they do move freely and rebound quickly. The nickel plate finish is about 95% intact, but it has dulled a bit with age. It has light scratching and scuffing throughout. This horn comes in a plastic shell case. The case is in good condition. The inside shows minimal light wear and tear. The exterior shell is in great shape, with no cracks or other damage. It has the school inventory number written on the exterior in white permanent markerThere is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included. Please feel free to message me with any questions! Thanks again for looking!MPSlot4
