This absolutely gorgeous Schatz & Sons Dome Model 54 1000 day Torsion Clock was made in Germany in August of 1956.......dome is original and in great shape with no markings or chips and the metal has a nice aged patina----BUYER PAYS SHIPPING AND INSURANCE-------- ABOUT THE MAKER: Schatz introduced their 1000 day clock in 1954. There were two case styles: round base with glass or plastic dome (glass came first and was changed to plastic around 1956), and rectangular base with brass cover (first with glass panels, then plastic). The first movements had straight legs, and were changed to the more graceful curved legs around mid-1955. The round base model came with several different styles of decoration above the dial. August Schatz began clock making in the mid-1800s with an eventual focus on making 400-day (anniversary) clocks in the Black Forest region of Triburg, Germany. In 1923 his company was registered as August Schatz & Sohne primarily making cuckoo clocks as well as barometers. Twenty plus years later he added a wide assortment of different clock styles in response to increased competition. In 1985 the company closed leaving a legacy of longevity, innovation, and affordable quality.
