Here is a rare Couturier Conical Bore trumpet. This would have been one of the last ones made before being taken over by Lyon & Healy in 1924. The serial number is 13050. It has patent dates stamped from 1913 and 1918. The bell inscription reads: Conical Bore, Pat'd, E.A. Couturier Co., LaPorte, IND. The beautiful bell engraving extends all the way around the bell flare and down the bell as far as the 2nd valve. It has a rotor valve to change from Bb to A.These trumpets had constantly expanding bore through the entire length of the instrument, even through the valve section. That's the reason for the "bow tie" valve slides. They increase in size from one end to the other. It takes a cornet sized mouthpiece shank. Some people label these as a long cornet, but it was designed and advertised as a trumpet and the Couturier trumpets had a mouthpiece design that was different from the cornets.This trumpet is gold plated and there is some wear to the plating. There are some dents and some spots have been resoldered. There's kind of a sloppy resolder on the front bell brace. It could use some touch up around the back bow and tail of the bell. The valves are in good vintage condition and work smoothly. The original case is tattered on the outside but is solid with good latches, hinges and handle. It doesn't have a mouthpiece with it.
