American Watch Co. w/Rare DamaskeenWaltham Watch Co. 16 size 23 jewel hunting case pendant-set "American Watch Co." pocket watch with very rare fishscale pattern damaskeen. A stunningly beautiful and extremely rare top grade movement, the vast majority of Waltham's 16 size bridge model "American Watch Co." grade production was made with a much simpler circular damaskeen but based on observed examples it appears that perhaps around 30 examples were made with this much more ornate fishscale damaskeen. This movement is marked as "21 Jewels" but in fact has 23 jewel total count as it has a fully capped lever escapement as well as an internally jeweled barrel, and for some reason this mis-marking seems to be quite common among this fishscale pattern bridge model as the majority of examples I've seen have been 23 jewel watches marked as "21 Jewels." Movement is beautifully finished with gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, gold train wheels, three visible diamond endstones, fishcale pattern nickel damaskeen upper plates, and a striped pattern damaskeen lower plate. Watch is fronted by its correct double-sunk glass enamel "Hull" style dial, and watch is housed in a 14K gold Keystone Watch Case Co. hunting case with beautiful engine turning and engraving detail. Movement serial number is 9503677. Gross weight of complete watch is 65.8 dwt (102.3 grams).Running and an absolutely beautiful movement with superb color and luster. Dial is beautiful with just a few very small fine scratches and pinpoint surface nicks. The area under "Waltham" has a very faint trace in reflected light that appears to be the "ghost" remains from a marking of a previous owner's name that was likely at one time painted on the dial's surface but later cleaned away leaving only a subtle shadow evident in the glaze in reflected lighting.
