The serial number, as identified in the photograph, is U8034 This trombone is in great shape, just a little issues here and there which were repaired by a reputable brass instrument repair shop. They did an ultra sonic clean hand slide section and bell section. Replace felts and corks, align, straighten, improve hand slide alignment. Texas flusher outer slide, strap, align and grease main tuning slide. Clean case. The case itself is in exquisite shape. The leather on the outside has several worn spots. The red velvet material inside is in almost perfect shape. The 'OLDS' moniker brass plate signifies this is more than likely the original case for the instrument. One of the catches doesn't flip open like the other one does, but this catch is easily opened with your fingers. Included with the F. E. Olds & Son Trombone are two separate music booklets from that same era. See pictures for more information. I have also contacted David Benedetto, President/Owner of F. E. Olds & Son, Inc., Between email exchanges and the same photographs in this listing shown to him, he wrote "Based upon the serial number and the Los Angeles engraving, the trombone was built in 1939."
