Mid-Victorian writing slope , made in England,in the Gothic style with gilded brass applied decoration. I spent a number of years looking for the best version of this and then acquired this one which is absolutely beautiful. The coromandel veneer is on all sides and is especially nice. All original surfaces including a beautiful dark blue velvet writing surface. Two inkwells with original caps dating to the mid-19th C. Reading straight edge in bone, Original dividers and small storage section upper portion. Hidden shelves under the writing surface as seen in the fourth pic. Coromandel is a rare wood originating from parts of Asia and is part of the ebony family of woods. It is unusual in that it is usually dark brown with golden striations, making it one of the most beautiful woods ever used. Found in the highest end Victorian woodenware and furniture. Now mostly extinct and protected from importing. You can actually enjoy using it just letting it sit for decoration. 14" wide, 9" high, 10" deep. Extraordinary condition!!
