Cool watercolor painting of a Baltimore city pool with lifeguard and bathers sunning themselves by Walter E Cohen (1912- 2004), a Baltimore native who studied at Maryland Institute College of Art. Painting measures 7.25" by 11.125". Bears artist's cipher lower right and artist's estate stamp on reverse. Note there are two folds to the paper in the left third of the painting- evident in the photos. Otherwise, excellent condition. Great early modernist feel, reminiscent of David Hockney's work.Purchased with group of paintings from the artist's estate. Cohen was a longtime resident of Bergen County NJ, born in 1912 in Baltimore and was an honorary graduate of the Maryland Institute of Art. He was involved in advertising, fine art and was also a writer.
