We are offering this antique Kuba "Bwoom" Helmet Mask.This mask was acquired from a Sotheby's auction in Nairobi, Kenya approx 20 years back.While the specific age of this piece is unidentified, it is approximated to be late 19th, very early 20th century.and is from the location now referred to as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This mask measures approx 11" in tall, 16" long (front to back) and approx 12" large at top of head.It is carved from one single piece of wood and embellished with cowry (cowrie) shells, red & white beads, raffia, and seed sheaths on the base of neck. The teeth and nose and ears are in high relief. Really detailed. Copper plating overlaid on face. It is in outstanding condition, with extremely couple of issues. All serious offers considered.
