So I took up the trumpet, with predictable results for me-- a basement full of horns. Now I need money and space— so some horns are going up on the auction block. Buy them before I change my mind again!Here’s a rotary-valved J. ALTRICHTER Eb FLUGELHORN/ SOLO ALTO HORN/ WHAT-IS-IT, looking pretty fly for a century old or so. The Eb flugelhorn, also called the alto flugel, is the Bb flugel's slightly bigger brother. The “Eb solo horn” is the 'leader of the (alto horn) pack', with the front-facing bell letting the hornist ‘play it forward’, as opposed to up and out. Whichever this is (and if I had to pick one, I'd say it was the Eb flugel-- solo horns were more a John Philip Sousa American thing, and this is German; plus I had a Swedish flugel for awhile that had this same broad shank leadpipe and tight bell) it is a very compact horn with a big voice. I had it fixed up and then haven’t played much, which means it should go. Valves work, slides slide, compression is slide-poppin’ good. Comes with 2 mouthpieces, a trumpet type one that came with it and perplexes me, and a Couesnon alto horn ‘piece for a mellower sound. NO CASE.
