Here is a beautiful religious themed chalk painting on paper after an oil painting entitled, “At the Altar” by Giuseppe Carnelli. The artist titled this work in the bottom center "Ave Maria". Depicted are five individuals, possibly a family: The small boy is kneeling in reverence as his sister prays. The oldest daughter is singing a hymn as she strums the loot. Father, dressed in 18th century clothes, is removing his head gear and bowing his head as his wife gazes upon the image of Mother Mary and baby Jesus on the wall. A well done copy of famous Italian painting in pastle with nice detail. The painting was originally signed, lower left. Traces of the faded signature still remain, but are mostly gone as happens in older pastels where fixative was not initially applied. A shame.This picturesque pastel is housed in a wonderfully carved frame (See photo of design). The frame alone is valuable and greatly enhances this artwork. The image is approximately 17" by 23.5" though some of it is obscured by the frame. The framed dimensions are approximately 19 inches by 26 inches. The frame and glass have been cleaned. Acid free paper has been attached to the back in order to protect the artwork for decades to come.A quality painting for an inexpensive price. Inquiries encouraged. For shipping purposes, the artwork will be shipped domestically through UPS unless requested by other means and agreed to. The package is 24" by 28" by 5" and weighs 10 pounds.
