ERWIN KETTEMANN (1897-1971), well-listed artist. Large, atmospheric oil painting on canvas laid to board, depicting cabins in the misty mountains – undoubtedly the Alps. Vintage wooden frame with gold gilt highlights. Signed and dated "E. Kettemann, München 1922."Kettemann's paintings have been sold at auction hundreds of times, with realized prices ranging up to $5,635 (source: MutualArt).The frame measures 25" x 31" and the sight is 21" x 27". In good condition for its age; several small areas of paint loss (see photos) and minor craquelure which does not detract from the beauty of the work. Please study good-resolution images above. In person, actual painting may appear brighter or darker than in photos, depending on the lighting in your environment. Only the painting is offered for sale, but the antique wooden frame shown will be sent free of charge as a gift. All sales final.Erwin Kettemann, born in Munich, Germany in 1897, was a German artist best known for his landscape paintings of the Alps. Kettemann's works employ a systematic approach and balanced composition, wherein rocky terrains are cut through by streams, paths, and fences. Sometimes populated by sparse flora, architecture, and figures, Kettemann’s backgrounds almost always feature the jagged and towering faces of the Alps. Sometimes sourced from studies of the Dolomites in northeastern Italy and sometimes of the German Wetterstein, his work is composed of lush, misty pastel pinks and blues contrasted against a central swath of rich brown and black. Kettemann's style is exemplary of traditional German landscape painting at the turn of the 20th century. His paintings are in demand and they are auctioned internationally with great success. Erwin Kettemann passed away in 1971 in Tegernsee, Germany.
