Fine antique Taylor tile top two tier table.This table measures 24 1/2" long, 16 1/4" wide and 17 3/4" high. Wood is mahogany.The top is inlaid with six 6"Taylor tiles in orange, green, black and yellow comprising a gorgeous Spanish influenced design.These tiles were made at Taylor Tilery in the 1930s in Santa Monica, California and then taken downtown Los Angeles to a furniture company for assembly into this table. The furniture company was most likely, Los Angeles Period Furniture Company. The wood has been recently refinished as I found this with wood stripped. The original grout is in very good condition as are the tiles.Minimal wear to tiles and just a few minor condition issues. One photo shows a small chip to tile edge and a small dig to neighboring tile. The glaze is in very good condition with no crazing and no repair to tiles.I was able to find this info and a photo of this tile design in Schiffer's book: California Tile The Golden Era 1910 - 1940.Also, when Malibu Tile closed in 1934, William Handley, Malibu's designer, was hired by Taylor where he worked designing until 1937.The glazes on these tiles are thick and exotic and the clay is red.We rarely see two tier California tile top tables and the tiles and design are superior. This table weighs 25 pounds and is super solid and sturdy besides being supremely beautiful. A fine piece of early Santa Monica and Los Angeles, California history.These photos were taken mostly in full sunlight so appear a bit lighter than normal room lighting.Capably boxed and shipped.Questions always welcome and thanks for looking.
