Meet the Grand Seiko Automatic GMT SBGM239 Limited Edition for HODINKEE. Only 500 examples will be produced, all exclusively for the U.S. market. The Grand Seiko Automatic GMT SBGM239 Limited Edition for HODINKEE features an attractive shade of twilight blue on the dial that was partially inspired by the daily transition from day to night – the hours that comprise dusk in English, or "Yūgure" in Japanese. A muted shade of grey is used for all aspects of the dial that pertain to the GMT functionality. We've also made subtle refinements to the text on the dial, and we've paired it all together with a three-link bracelet. The addition of a stainless steel bracelet makes an immediate difference in how the Grand Seiko Automatic GMT SBGM239 Limited Edition for HODINKEE wears on the wrist, bringing a whole new casual and sporty vibe to the watch. This is the first watch in the SBGM series – since Grand Seiko became its own independent brand in 2017 – to be available on a bracelet and to U.S.-based collectors. Inside the Grand Seiko Automatic GMT SBGM239 Limited Edition for HODINKEE is the self-winding 9S66 caliber. It's manufactured completely in-house, from start to finish, through a combination of industrial processes and manual techniques. Once the 9S66 caliber is completed, Grand Seiko tests it over 17 days, in six different positions, and across three different temperatures. And most importantly, its integrated GMT complication is incredibly easy to use. The local hour hand can be adjusted in one-hour increments, either forward or backward, in the crown's first position. The GMT hand is connected to the minute hand, so you should adjust your second time-zone first and then jump the primary hour hand to match your local time. With the SBGM239, we've combined a highly wearable stainless steel case, an attractive twilight blue dial, an easy-to-use GMT complication, and a versatile design that can span casual wear as well as more elegant attire.
