Description:

This bike is now provided on eBay. When a proposal has actually been put I will have to draw this add. Get it while you still can at this price. Because I constantly really wanted a 1993 Bridgestone X0-1, I constructed this bike. I decided to build my own variation because: 1) an initial is extremely challenging to come by, and 2) I do not like the high 73 degree head angle for travelling. I started with a high end American made hand built 19" 1998 Gary Fisher X-Caliber w/small tube Reynolds 853 frameset (a good upgrade from the initial Ishiwata Tube set) and an uncut Soma Tange Infinity ChroMo fork ($150). This led to a more relaxed 71 degree head angle. I had it sand blasted and powder coated 70 % gloss British Racing green at Novation. This bike is actually much much nicer than the initial X0-1. This bike rides buttery smooth, and is steady and very comfortable. I located some original 1993 Bridgestone X0-1 parts: Sugino General Practitioner cranks w/chainrings ($150 utilized), DiaComp 986 cantilevers ($25 utilized), Nitto Mustache bar ($100 new). I discovered some parts that were close and the correct vintage, however a bit higher end: DiaComp Grand Comp brake levers ($50 used), and DiaComp Stoker dummy levers ($30 utilized) for the deal with bar. The remainder of the parts are not original, but in the spirit of the bike as developed of by Grant Peterson *. Grant Peterson made use of a lot of Ritchey and Nitto parts in his bikes: Nitto lugged Reynolds 853 CroMo seat post ($225) and stem ($200) (both made by Grant Peterson at Rivendell Bicycle Works), Ritchey Logic WCS headset ($80), SR bar end shifters ($80), Ritchey front brake hanger ($15), Ritchey Tom Slick folding Kevlar 26X1.4" tires ($120), Ritchey Lightning Rod Ti Wheel Skewers ($40), Salsa seat clamp ($30), Rear Wheel Ritchey OCR rim/Ritchey Zero hub ($150 used), Front wheel White Industries hub/WTB rim ($150 made use of), newer Shimano 105 SC rear derailleur ($50) (OE XO-1derailleurs and centers were 105), Shimano XT front derailleur ($30), and Brown Cardiff Mercia leather saddle ($110). * Grant Peterson was the president of Bridgestone Bicycles and the one that created of and developed the Bridgestone X0-1. After leaving Bridgestone he formed and runs Rivendell Bicycle Works. http://www.rivbike.com/Articles.asp?ID=286 I added a long time consuming old-fashioned individual touches: I wrapped the deal with bar, chain stay, and upper portion of the seat tube for pump in brown fabric tape, finished them in Hemp cord, and shellacked them with a lots coats of amber shellack. Ask a bike shop how much they would charge you to do this:-) I ordered an initial Reynolds 853 decal straight from Reynolds, plus I had an old original Gary Fisher Made in the USA decal and used them to the frame. It likewise comes with the new chrome Zefal pump ($40) and Origin8 leather seat bag ($90) received pictures. The images reveal the bike as it developed in time from newest to oldest. The earliest photos are last showing the bike before repainting. I later added decals from Doma roasting for fun. I will get rid of these. In the photos you will notice a difference in color and sparkle on the bar tape. The color modification is because of how numerous layers of shellac had been used at the time of the picture. The images showing the handle bar, brake and stem levers alone stand for $400; the fork, headset, and spacers $300; and the seat and seat post another $300. That first thousand dollars builds up fast with good parts. All the costs revealed do not stand for the overall cost of the bike. They are just some highlights. I understand that this design of bike is not for everybody. I am ready to wait for the right individual that appreciates this kind of bike and has the cash money.
