An original signed wildlife painting of geese, titled “Heading South,” is a coastal snow scene of decrepit old pier railings covered in ice and snow, with a glimpse over a snowbank of geese leaving for a warmer clime. Matted in white linen and framed in a silver-grey frame. The outer frame measurements are 19.5 by 15.5. John R. Wilson is an award-winning artist who who exhibited for decades at the Waterfowl Festival in Eason, Maryland, and in the SEWE (Southeastern Wildlife Exposition) in Charleston, South Carolina, while supplying galleries such as the King Gallery in New York and the Marine Art Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. Now retired from traveling, he is enjoying a leisurely life and studio painting at his home in Georgia. A brief synopsis of his career: In addition to his native Georgie, the entire Eastern coast has provided Johnson with a teeming abundance of wildlife and natural settings which he portrays in his paintings.“I try to capture a mood by painting a mystery into every painting — by not telling the whole story. Part of the excitement of viewing a painting is the stirring of senses and personal memories when you feel you’ve been in a similar spot or would like to be. I hope each person will add that human dimension at which I have only hinted in my paintings.”Winner of an impressive number of awards over the past six decades, he has also had paintings selected for nationwide tours, such as the “Arts for the Parks” competition, which toured the US for a year. He and his work have been featured in magazines, including “Sports Afield,” “Wildlife Art News” and “Southwest Art” and his paintings have been commissioned for use in “Shooting Sportsman” magazine.John’s numerous paintings are in private collections, museums and galleries.
