Make-do chairs were initially produced not because of their looks, however since they served a purpose - to keep the individual sitting warm from the drafts that many older fireplaces and homes had. Their history dates back to the 18th century when the "wing back" chair was very first designed. While some individuals can get the recently styled chair, lots of people could not, so they would "make-do" with what they had, and developed their own from an old chair by including a high back and sides from whatever scraps of wood were offered, and covered it with whatever fabric or quilts they had laying around.I hand-craft each of my chairs separately, so no two are the exact same.
