Mid-1920s Vega Style M Tubaphone tenor banjo, 17-fret neck, 21" scale, 11" diameter head.It features the Vega & Vines pearl headstock, Grover pat. tuners, Presto tailpiece, 28 hooks on notched rim.The serial number is a 76598 and is the same on the pot and dowel stick, which I believe dates it to the mid-1920's.The head is likely its original skin, but it is partially torn along the edge as shown and should be replaced. I've opted to leave it in place as a reference for the exact diameter and crown height, and because preferences vary among players.The string nut appears original and is in good condition.The bridge should be replaced but the action is decent and looks as if it could go lower with a set-up and replacement bridge.There is a bracket and receiver for a resonator attached to the dowel stick, but I'm not certain which style it would have had. I believe the case is original and its larger diameter seems to confirm that a resonator somewhat larger than the pot's outer diameter was once in place. The case has wear as shown in pics. It works well as an open-back tenor or could be set-up as an Irish tenor with heavier gauge strings.It's in good overall condition for being nearly 100 years old.***READ CAREFULLY***
