Very Rare Meiji Period Hand Carved Arthur & Bond Yokohama Dragon Armchair. Arthur & Bond Yokohama in was in business for 34 years, regrettably the business was destroyed in the great Yokohama earthquake in September 1923. Arthur and Bond Yokohama is renown for their high quality silverware, metal works, furniture, etc. This amazing chair has been in storage for decades. Arthur & Bond's most famous commission is the Liscum Bowl, tresured by the 9th United States Infantry. It stands as a monument to Colonel Liscum, regimental commander, who was killed in action at Tientsin, China, on 13 July 1900. There is some wear to chair as would be expected, there are some scuffs on the legs, a small chip on the outside left arm rest behind the dragons head, a small chip to the front left leg, a small chip/scuff to bottom front cloud. There is a a small section where two round wood decorative “buttons” on side of seat are missing as shown in photo with red arrow. Overall this chair is good condition. There is some white residue in parts of chair from what is probably some kind of old wood wax. Please examine photos closely for details and condition. It is really difficult to really convey the full beauty and craftsmanship of this chair with these just the photos. If you like what you see in the photos I think you will satisfied with this beautiful example of Meiji period superior wood craftsmanship.
